Mature Driver Checklist

There is no specific age at which it becomes unsafe to drive. Driving is a function of ability, not age. However, driving ability is affected by natural changes to our body over time.

Our goal is to help you drive safely for as long as possible. The following checklist will help you overcome the natural changes that commonly affect our driving as we age.

Reduce risk from decreasing visual ability

  • Get your eyes examined regularly
  • Wear corrective lenses if required
  • Wear sunglasses to reduce glare
  • Set mirrors properly to reduce glare of headlights behind you

Improve physical mobility and strength

  • Develop a stretching routine
  • Go for walks
  • Do resistance weight training

How long and safely you continue to drive is up to each individual. The more active you are, the more you exercise your mind and body, the more you work to increase your awareness and improve your driving skills, the longer you can continue to operate a vehicle safely.
